What Should a Guest Wear at a Christening?

If you are invited to a christening and unsure what to wear then don’t worry, you are not alone. Many people start to panic about their wardrobe when they first receive an invitation, but there is simply no need. Chances are that you already have everything that you need in your collection of clothes.

Many people worry about which colour clothing to wear to a christening, and wonder if they should avoid black. However, unless you intend to turn up dressed head to tail in black, there is no need to avoid the colour altogether.

Options For Men

For men, a simple suit and tie is a good idea, whether it be black, blue, brown or grey. It might be a good idea to steer clear of extremely bright colours such as yellow, orange and red however. If suits aren’t your style, then just opt for a smart casual look, as long as you don’t venture into jeans and T-shit territory. Smart shoes are recommended over trainers, or other types of casual footwear.

Options For Women

Women have a bit more choice when it comes to choosing what to wear for a christening. Obviously the occasions does not call for something as extravagant as you would wear for a wedding, a baby christening is an opportunity to put on something special that you might otherwise not get the chance to wear. Try to imagine what you would choose to wear if you were attending a day at the races and pick something similar. If you love wearing hats, this this is a great opportunity to do so, although if the thought of it makes you come out in a rash, there is absolutely no need to feel that you have to. The key is to be yourself and not choose something that will make you feel uncomfortable both physically and mentally throughout the day. Remember that there will most likely be a reception after the christening, so your clothing needs to be practical as well as a fashion statement.

Guidelines

Often when you receive invitation, there will be some indication of the type of clothes that the hosts would like you to wear. If this is not the case, do not feel afraid to get in touch and ask. After all, the last thing that you want is to turn up in high heels and a maxi dress, when everyone else there hasn’t made much of an effort.
